Everyone tries to solve the problem of hair loss in their own way. Naturally, there is really no dearth of hair care products for thinning hair in the market. Of all the hair loss solutions that claim to cure hair loss, shampoos for thinning hair are the most popular. The reason being their cost and ease of application.

Types of Shampoos for Thinning Hair
They are available in two varieties, one that adds volume to hair and the other that has a deep cleansing formula which stops hair fall. You will have to choose the shampoo, as per your needs. If you have a major hair fall problem, then it is always better to go for one, which has hair loss preventing properties. The first type of thinning hair shampoos called volumizers, may make your hair appear full, but may end up damaging it.

1. Volumizers
Ideally, any shampoo should be slightly acidic with a pH in a range of 4.5 to 5.5. Alkalinity makes the hair brittle and frizzy. Volumizers use this property of alkalinity to add volume to your hair. Such shampoo will make the surface of your hair rough and stiff. The stiffness of hair makes them stand out, thereby adding volume to your hair. They increase the diameter of every hair, so that the added effect results in fuller and thicker hair. Obviously, such shampoos are not good in the long run. You can consider using them for adding volume to your hair temporarily, but definitely not as a cure for thinning hair.

2. Deep Cleansers
Deep cleansers are the shampoos which not only clean the dirt and grime but also nullify the effects of DHT ( Dihydrotestosterone). This is a byproduct of testosterone and 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme found in the scalp. The effect of DHT is such that it sends false signals to the cells that control hair growth, thereby causing the hair to fall. The ingredients in deep cleansing shampoos for thinning hair aim at hair loss prevention by nullifying the effects of DHT. As you must have noticed, these shampoos eradicate the root cause of hair fall, hence can be considered a better option.

While buying a shampoo for thinning hair, always look out for the ingredients. The ingredients used in the shampoo must be capable of neutralizing DHT. Also, lookout for the pH balance of the shampoo. Remember, alkaline shampoo with pH levels more than 7 can render your hair weak and brittle. Hence, do not opt for temporary volumizers, but go for ones that can truly stop hair fall.

Tips for Thinning Hair
• Wash your hair not more than twice a week. But if your hair is very oily and you need to wash it more often, wash it with a very mild shampoo.
• Do not wash your hair with very hot water, it will damage your hair. Cold water is ideal for hair health. But one can use warm water as an alternative.
• Go in for a head massage once in every 15 days. A professional will be able to reach all those spots that you can't.
• Rub finger nails of both hands against each other. These are said to have nerve endings that promote growth of hair.
• Do not use too many hair products or go in for extensive hair treatments like straightening, perming and coloring. It will ruin the quality of your hair.
• Always cover your hair when going out in the harsh sun. The sun will extract the moisture from the hair and make it dry. A solution for this is to wet the tips of the hair with plain water before going out. The sun will dry the already present moisture instead of attacking the natural hair moisture.
• It is important to massage the scalp before or after a bath. This improves blood circulation and promotes hair growth.
• Use a pack of fuller's earth on your hair.
• Drink at least a liter of spinach and lettuce juice mixture everyday for great hair.
• Do not comb your hair when it is wet. At this time, the hair is highly elastic and tends to break off.
• Check if there is any disease affecting you - like hormonal imbalance. Knowing the cause will help you treat it better.
• Correct your lifestyle - start eating a balanced meal and sleeping on time. This will help to improve the quality of your hair.
• Mix a packet of birth control pills in your shampoo and continue to use as normal. You'll see fuller hair after a period of time.
